Replacing your elementary playground

Playground structures built in the 1990s and 2000s are reaching the end of their service life across Kansas and Missouri: parts are discontinued, surfacing has compacted below ADA depth and older designs no longer meet current safety standards. ATHCO has been replacing school playgrounds in both states since the equipment was new, and the process is simpler than many districts expect.

Planning and funding.

Contact ATHCO for an estimate tailored to your equipment, surfacing, removal and installation needs. Districts fund projects from capital outlay, bond contingency, PTO fundraising or a combination. The board approves a purchase order against our quote, since our products and services have been pre-bid through Greenbush's RFP process.

Timeline.

Site visit and concept in two weeks. Board approval. Order in March for a summer installation; equipment ships in 8 to 12 weeks and installation takes one to two weeks. The playground is ready before school starts.

Surfacing and inclusion.

Engineered Wood Fiber (EWF) is the lowest-cost compliant option. Synthetic turf or poured rubber costs more and has different maintenance requirements. Inclusive replacement designs can combine ramped or transfer access to elevated play, ground-level sensory play, and a layout that lets children of all abilities play together.
