The project
When USD 475 built a new Early Childhood Center, the specification called for two outdoor play areas, one for the youngest children and one for pre-K and kindergarten, both on synthetic turf with below-grade drainage. ATHCO was the playground and surfacing subcontractor to Hutton Corporation, working to Schaefer Architecture's drawings and Hutton's construction schedule.
ATHCO supplied Landscape Structures equipment sized for early-childhood ages and installed the turf and drainage system under the whole play area. Submittals, shop drawings, weekly site coordination, as-builts and O&M closeout were all handled by ATHCO's project manager. For architects and GCs, this is the model for how ATHCO works on bonded new-build school projects across Kansas and Missouri.
