MecH2O®: a recirculating splash pad without the pump house

Aquatix's MecH2O® puts the splash pad recirculation plant in a factory-built system. The water tank is precast concrete and goes in the ground; the plant room is built on its lid, pre-plumbed, pre-wired and tested before it ships; the complete unit arrives on one flatbed and is craned into place. ATHCO has installed it at Jerry Ivey Park in Salina, High Park in Derby and the Derby Public Library.

How it works.

Below grade, a 3,000-gallon precast concrete reservoir has a flat bottom for cleaning, a waterproof coating, pre-plumbed rubber-boot penetrations, a fill valve, overflow chamber, submersible pump-out and underwater lights. Above grade, the tank lid forms the floor of a steel enclosure holding the feature pump, distribution manifold, sand or cartridge filtration, UV sanitation, automatic chlorine and acid dosing, remote monitoring and touchscreen controls. Ventilation, lighting, outlets, an eye-wash station and an overhead I-beam and trolley support operation and maintenance. Stainless-steel winterization hubs drain the feature lines from inside the enclosure. The system supports up to 500 GPM and 25 feature supply lines, with filtration sized for a turnover of 30 minutes or less. The enclosure is available in Aquatix powder-coat colors or DigiFuse graphics.

What it changes for a city.

Aquatix describes a typical installation in four days against about two months for a site-built system. At Jerry Ivey Park, ATHCO delivered the pad, tank and enclosure as one contract with no separate mechanical-building design or trade coordination. One technical resource covers the system for installation and service. A consistent system across several pads simplifies staff training. Aquatix designs it as a 25-year system. It is comparable in cost to a site-built recirculation system, with less of the cost in design, trades and schedule.

Recirculating versus flow-through.

A flow-through pad uses potable water once and drains it. A recirculating pad treats and reuses the water; MecH2O® provides recirculation without building a separate pump house. ATHCO models both options for a site before recommending either.

Where ATHCO has installed it.

Jerry Ivey Park, Salina: a 60-foot pad with sand filtration and UV, completed in 2026. High Park, Derby: installed with the destination playground in 2026. Derby Public Library: a MecH2O® Sand system on a small library pad, completed in 2025.

MecH2O® questions and answers

What is MecH2O®?

MecH2O® is Aquatix's prefabricated splash pad recirculation system: a precast concrete reservoir with a factory-built mechanical enclosure containing pumps, filtration, UV sanitation, chemical treatment and controls.

Does it need a building?

It does not need a separate site-built pump house. The mechanical enclosure is built on the precast tank lid and arrives pre-plumbed, pre-wired and tested.

How long does installation take?

Aquatix describes a typical system installation of four days, compared with about two months for a site-built system. The full project schedule depends on site preparation and the splash pad scope.

Can it be winterized?

Yes. Stainless-steel winterization hubs drain the feature lines from inside the enclosure, without a separate winterization pit.

Who services it?

ATHCO supplies, installs and services Aquatix equipment in Kansas and Missouri and trains city staff at start-up. Contact ATHCO to discuss service for your system.

Is it available in Kansas and Missouri?

Yes, through ATHCO as the Aquatix representative. Local installations include Jerry Ivey Park in Salina, High Park in Derby and the Derby Public Library.

Cooperative purchasing

A simpler route from plan to purchase.

Schools, cities, counties and qualifying non-profits in Kansas and Missouri can purchase ATHCO equipment and installation through ATHCO’s Greenbush cooperative contract, already competitively bid through Greenbush’s RFP process.
