Wallace Park, Lebanon: a pollinator-themed playground

The project
Lebanon Parks & Recreation replaced the playground at Wallace Park with a design that teaches as it plays: hexagonal honeycomb climbers and crawl-through cells, a bee-themed tower with slides, tall green grass-blade sculptures and an interpretive panel about the nest, all on synthetic turf so it drains and stays accessible. Swings and spinners sit on the same turf circle.
A few steps away ATHCO added a cantilevered steel shade shelter over picnic tables, so parents have somewhere to sit in the shade while children play. Both pieces were ordered through ATHCO's Missouri representative and installed in time for the 2024 season. It is a reference for mid-sized Missouri cities wanting a themed playground on turf rather than mulch.
