The project
Higginsville, a town of about 4,700 on I-70 east of Kansas City, wanted water play beside its Family Aquatic Center without a custom design process. ATHCO supplied an Aquatix AquaSmart package: a pre-engineered set of spray features and mechanicals that arrives with stamped drawings, so a small city can go from council approval to opening day in one season.
The Package C features give a lot of play in a small footprint: an AquaGather post with a puzzle path, splash flash and birdbath; a LeafCrown canopy spray; and TotPack turtle and ladybug ground features for the smallest children, in lime, peacock blue and tangerine. The matching mechanical package and bollard activator are sized to the features, which keeps engineering and installation simple. It is a reference project for Kansas and Missouri communities asking what a splash pad looks like at their scale.
